WHY?!
Day 1—Understanding Begins Where Self Ends

Here is something every person knows deep in their bones.
Life will hand you moments that demand an answer.
Why did this happen? Why did that break? Why does the world look like this?
We all go there and have been there.
I remember that rare day I played golf with my brother. We were paired with two successful business leaders. I picked their brain the whole time and eventually shared Jesus with them. One part of their conversation marked me. They were in complete disbelief about the condition of the world. I felt a quiet confidence rise in me. I am not surprised. God gives understanding in every circumstance. The psalmist knew that. That is why he asked for it.
Psalm 119:169 is a warrior’s cry.
“Let my cry come before You O Lord. Give me understanding according to Your word.”
Clear. Direct. Humble.
The psalmist knows his thoughts do not change by themselves. They are transformed by the Word of God. Paul says the same thing. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. David Guzik says it well. The psalmist wanted understanding of life and the world shaped and transformed by the Word of God.
Here is what this verse reveals.
Understanding is not discovered. It is given.
Revelation is not earned. It is received.
Clarity does not come from willpower. It comes from staying near.
Wisdom is not pulled from our mind. It is breathed into us by His Word.
When a man asks for understanding, he is confessing, “I cannot see unless You open my eyes. I cannot judge rightly unless You speak. I cannot lead unless You lead me first.”
Never Finished Challenge
Carry Psalm 119:169 today.
Before every decision, pray, “Lord, give me understanding.”
Before every study, pray, “Open Your word to me.”
Before every conversation, pray, “Guide my heart and lips.”
Before every step, pray, “Lead me so I can lead.”
If you want understanding, hunger for the Source.
He delights to give it.
What Does Today Say About God
Jehovah Tsidkenu
The Lord Our Righteousness
Verse: “And this is His name by which He will be called: ‘The LORD our righteousness.’” (Jeremiah 23:6)
You cannot earn what Jesus already purchased. Live from righteousness, not toward it. Pursue the source for relationship sake and receive understanding.
Today, may you be blessed with zeal to step into His presence.
What a Father.
What a King.
What a Friend.
Thank You, Jesus.
