Why Is the West Spiritually Collapsing?
We’ve traded reverence for comfort — and lost the fire that once set hearts ablaze.
Where Is the Fear of God?
How do we recover awe-striking reverence for the King of Kings?
God is awe-inspiring.
But the loss of reverence is the root of spiritual collapse.
For the past decade, I’ve witnessed something profound:
Sixty thousand students packed into a stadium, worshipping the King.
Thousands gather in churches every Sunday, singing in unity and listening to powerful sermons preached by preachers.
But for ten years, I rarely saw that fire leave the building.
When it did, it was usually one outlier—someone who actually spent Monday through Saturday with God and with people, carrying the presence into daily life.
(And we should all be that outlier.)
So what’s going on?
I’m not here to criticize the Church—it’s the Bride of Christ, and I love her (as a Christian, we should be tethered to of a church)—
However, I would like to offer an honest and hopefully empowering observation.
When Reverence Was Real
In Psalm 76, God’s presence wasn’t just theoretical; it was overwhelming.
It says His power dropped soldiers in their tracks and left kings trembling.
Israel not only heard about God daily, but they also encountered Him regularly: in smoke and thunder on Sinai, in a fire consuming sacrifices, and in miraculous victories where entire armies were wiped out overnight.
They witnessed a God who was holy, just, and good.
And it brought them to their knees.
When was the last time we dropped to our knees?
Certainly not in church in front of other believers, right?
Even They Forgot...
It sounds inspiring when we read about our brothers and sisters under the Old Covenant.
But just like us, they didn’t keep that reverence for long.
And today?
In the modern Christian West, most never even start with it.
We’ve reduced God to fit our comfort zones:
A consultant instead of a King.
A therapist instead of a Consuming Fire.
A personal assistant instead of the Commander of Heaven’s Armies.
This Should Disturb Us
Because without reverence:
Grace becomes cheap.
Worship becomes performance.
Holiness becomes optional.
And Jesus becomes just “my friend” — not the Risen King who holds the universe together by His word.
Never Finished Challenge: Return to Reverence
For the next 7 days, commit to on rhythm or all 5:
Begin each morning on your knees.
Whisper: “You are God, and I am not.”Declare one name of God aloud.
(Ex: El Elyon – Most High God)Read one awe-story from Scripture each night.
(Exodus 19, Isaiah 6, Revelation 1…)Fast from food, one meal or multiple, or abstain from one comfort this week.
(Phone, food, control — let yourself feel your need again.) *If you are fasting from food for the first time, please reach out to me or other brothers and sisters in Christ who have done it.Memorize this:
“The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
(Romans 6:23)
Revival begins with reverence.
May God restore holy awe in our bones.
What does today say about God?
Awe-inspiring.
He exists outside of time.
He holds the universe in the palm of His hands.
No one—nothing—can prevent His will from unfolding.
His ways are higher.
His reign is unstoppable.
What a Father.
What a Friend.
What a King.
Thank You, Jesus.
