What We Know + What He Knows Transforms Us
Because of Jesus, we can live differently daily.
“Doom to you who legislate evil, who make laws that make victims— Laws that make misery for the poor, that rob my destitute people of dignity, Exploiting defenseless widows, taking advantage of homeless children. What will you have to say on Judgment Day, when Doomsday arrives out of the blue? Who will you get to help you? What good will your money do you? A sorry sight you’ll be then, huddled with the prisoners, or just some corpses stacked in the street. Even after all this, God is still angry, his fist still raised, ready to hit them again.” Isaiah 10:1-4 MSG
When I read Isaiah, the first few verses captivated my brain. In these verses, I observed and concluded that Ephraim, the Northern Kingdom, had more reason to fear God than he had to fear Assyria. Yahweh would discipline him because of his pride, corrupt leadership, selfishness, and oppression of his vulnerable citizens. He would not suffer defeat because of military inferiority but moral inadequacy. Ultimately, however, God’s character was displayed for me, and I would like to leave a challenge that will empower you to be more like Jesus.
Who Is God? (What We Know About Him)
He’s Just: God’s justice isn’t just punishment—it’s restoration. Knowing that He hates oppression gives us confidence in His ability to set things right. With this hope, it doesn't matter if we witness the fix on earth because we know IT WILL BE FIXED.
He’s Loving and Compassionate: God’s care for the overlooked means no one is invisible to Him. He sees and values everyone, regardless of how the world treats them.
He’s Sovereign: God’s power ensures that no leader, system, or injustice is beyond His reach. Knowing this brings hope in uncertain times.
2. Who Are We? (What God Thinks About Us)
We Are Seen: Even if the world overlooks us, God never does. Like the widows and orphans in Isaiah 10, He fights for us and values us.
We Are Empowered: Understanding that we are loved by a just, compassionate, and powerful God emboldens us to act with confidence and purpose.
We Are Called: God equips us to reflect His heart for justice and mercy. This identity invites us into His work of healing and restoring the world.
Never Finished Challenge - Why This Matters
Knowing who God is and what He thinks of us transforms how we view ourselves and our role in the world. Instead of feeling powerless, we’re reminded that we’re part of God’s redemptive plan.
Understanding God’s justice and compassion should inspire us to live differently—to advocate for the overlooked, to lead with humility, and to trust in His ultimate authority.
I have a confession to make: I blow it every day. I don’t have that conversation, miss that opportunity to defend the helpless, or respond to a frustrating situation with kindness… but I have found that He not only loves me through it, but He gives me another chance. After all, I said yes to Him and have a desire to grow.
Here is my challenge: Memorize these verses and pray for our leaders!
1. God’s Justice
Amos 5:24 (ESV)
“But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”
Why Memorize It?
This verse vividly reminds us that God desires continual, life-giving justice. It challenges us to pursue fair treatment for all, reflecting His heart for righteousness in our actions.
2. God’s Love & Compassion
Lamentations 3:22–23 (ESV)
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Why Memorize It?
These words comfort us with the reality of God’s unwavering love and mercy. No matter how often we fall short or feel overlooked, His compassion is fresh every single day.
3. God’s Sovereignty
Isaiah 46:9–10 (ESV)
“...for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me,
declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done…”
Why Memorize It?
This passage reminds us that God is fully in control—past, present, and future. When circumstances feel chaotic or leaders fail, we can rest assured that He reigns supreme.
For your Pocket: Because of Jesus, we can live differently daily.
What does today say about God?
His justice gives us confidence that evil won’t have the last word.
His love offers reassurance that we are never alone or forgotten.
His sovereignty brings peace because nothing catches Him by surprise.
Thank you, Jesus!
