What Should I Do Now?!
The Answer Isn’t More Hustle or More Hesitation—It’s Jesus
Sometimes, we start the day consumed by earthly concerns rather than Jesus. Thankfully, the Holy Spirit has given me the help and guidance to redirect my mind and heart.
I keep my headphones next to my bed so that when I wake up, I sit on the edge, open my hands, and declare two transforming statements to Him. Then, I put on my headphones, letting scripture and affirmations fill my mind—reminders of who He is and who I am in Him.
This morning, I followed that routine. Yet, in a brief moment, a conversation with my wife about finances and childcare for our three daughters (all four and under) disrupted my focus. She wisely stepped away without pressing for a solution, choosing instead to continue Bible time. But my mind kept spinning:
Homeschool?
Daycare, so we can build ministry?
It’s only four days a week for my eldest and three for my middle child.
Don’t delegate their character formation.
Don’t let someone else raise your children.
These thoughts tumbled through my mind, each one pressing in.
I prayed, asking for help to refocus so that the busy day ahead wouldn’t rob me of this moment with God. I stepped outside barefoot and looked up at the sky. The crescent moon veiled itself in a thin blanket of clouds. I took a deep breath and found myself centering back on Jesus.
I reread Isaiah 42 several times. My heart kept returning to the first verse.
The Servant of the Lord
"Behold, My Servant whom I uphold,
My Chosen One in whom My soul delights.
I have put My Spirit upon Him;
He will bring justice to the nations."
— Isaiah 42:1 (AMP)
The original audience of Isaiah’s time would have understood this passage as referring to the coming Messiah—the One chosen by God, anointed with His Spirit, who would establish justice and righteousness. It was a promise of restoration, a glimpse of hope in the midst of exile, oppression, and spiritual waywardness.
But there was one caveat: Behold! They needed to turn their whole life toward Him.
For us today, we mercifully see this passage fulfilled in Jesus Christ. He is the Servant upheld by God, the One in whom the Father delights (Matthew 3:17). He carries the Spirit without measure (John 3:34), and He alone brings true justice—not through earthly power, but through His sacrifice, resurrection, and ultimate reign.
This morning, my mind spiraled because I lost focus on Him. I was trying to create my own solutions, my own justice, my own way. But Isaiah 42:1 calls me back to Jesus.
He is the Chosen One, the One who leads with perfect wisdom and authority. My task is not to figure everything out but to trust the One who already has.
Never Finished Challenge – A Challenge for the Doers and the Stuck
For those of us wired to act, execute, and solve problems, focusing on Jesus doesn’t mean passivity. It means aligning every action with His will—not rushing ahead of Him or forcing an outcome He hasn’t ordained.
For those who feel stuck, hesitant, or afraid to start, focusing on Jesus doesn’t mean waiting forever. It means moving forward in faith, trusting that obedience is greater than perfection.
So here’s the challenge:
If you tend to overdo—Pause before you act.
Before planning, strategizing, or problem-solving today, stop and bring it before the Lord. Open your hands and ask:
“Jesus, what is mine to do today? What is Yours?”
Then listen.
Act only in obedience, not out of fear, pressure, or human logic. Work hard, but work from a place of faith, not anxiety. Build, but build on His foundation, not your own.
NOTE: If you find yourself forgetting about Him while you work hard—or even worse, not reflecting Him in the way you work—you need to pause from work.
BUT FINANCES… BUT MY CHILDREN… BUT MY FUTURE…
That’s right—your future is not guaranteed.
So why store up what moths and rust can destroy (Matthew 6:19-20)? Why sacrifice and delay your transformation, hiding your light from the darkness, just so you can be… comfortable?
If you tend to hesitate—Start with one step of obedience.
Stop waiting until you have the perfect plan. Jesus never said, “Go when you have it all figured out.”
He said, “Follow Me.”
That means walking forward, even when you don’t see the whole path.
So ask:
“Jesus, what is one thing I can do today to walk in obedience?”
Then do it.
Take the step. Make the call. Start the conversation. Write the idea down. Send the email. Whatever it is—move forward in faith.
What Does Today Say About God?
Despite the constant failing of God’s people—our ancestors—God continued to reveal glimpses of the future, along with His love and mercy (of which judgment is an important part).
And He continues to do that today.
God does not grow tired or overwhelmed in offering love and mercy.
He wasn’t upset this morning when I lost focus.
When I asked Him for help, He helped in a big way.
And though my mind will spiral more today, He will continue to bring me back to Him.
Thank you, Jesus.
