Some Trust in Horses—Money, Power, People... I Trust in Him.
Reclaiming the Power of Prayer-Fueled Victory ⚔️ - Psalm 20
No kidding—there I was. Fifteen days into a thirty-day annual training. I was tired. I felt unseen. But I stayed motivated to keep working hard—as for the Lord, not for man (Colossians 3:23).
Then they showed up.
A square-jawed, muscle-packed, Hercules-looking soldier. And with him, the general. The big dog in the military. The boss. Hercules wasn’t just ripped. He was Ranger-tabbed (meaning he had completed the near-impossible Ranger School), earning his MBA, and serving as the general’s right-hand man, his aide.
Immediately, my heart sank as I went outside my body and judged myself.
No Ranger tab.
No MBA.
No general at my side.
Then a quiet voice whispered.
“You are aide to Me.”
And it hit me like jumping into a thirty-seven-degree pool on a snow day.
I was an aide to the King of Kings. The most powerful General in the universe. And when I enter rooms or environments, darkness shakes. That realization re-lit my fire. It gave me fresh strength to keep doing what I’d been doing—praying, reading the Word, and standing firm—even out in the woods, even in the exhaustion.
This story came to mind after I read today’s psalm.
📖 Psalm 20: A Battle Psalm
“May we shout for joy over your victory and lift up our banners in the name of our God. May the Lord grant all your requests… Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”
—Psalm 20:5–7
⚔️ The Context: A Pre-Battle Prayer for God’s King
Before swords clashed and war cries echoed, the people of Israel prayed. ✨ Psalm 20 was likely sung before King David entered battle. But it wasn’t just about military victory. It was about spiritual alignment.
This wasn’t a cheer squad—it was an intercessory army.
They weren’t putting their hope in their king’s name.
They were lifting banners in God’s name.
His name was their strategy.
His sanctuary was their source.
His power was their only real path to victory. 🏹
👑 The Fulfillment: The Ultimate Anointed and His People
In Jesus, this psalm finds its deepest meaning. He is the Anointed One, the King of all kings. And because of His death and resurrection, His Spirit now lives in you.
That same power that brought David victory? It now operates in and through believers—but with one key purpose: God’s mission, not personal ambition.
Too often, we treat prayer like a vending machine—something we use to get what we want. But prayer isn’t about transaction. It’s about transformation.
Prayer is a battle plan.
It’s the power that invites God to intercede in our world and align us with His heart.
It opens the door for His presence to flood our moments and shift atmospheres.
🔥 Reclaiming a Prayer-Fueled Life: 3 Simple Steps
1. Start with Gratitude ☀️
Write down three things you’re thankful for first thing each morning. Gratitude prepares your heart to hear from God and surrender to His will for the day.
Let’s be real—some mornings it’s hard to be grateful.
👉 Ask God to help.
👉 Throw on some worship.
👉 Let your heart get soft. Yes, let Him take away your pride.
2. Ask God to Organize Your Prayer Life 🗓️
Be intentional. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you zeal and structure. Make space.
Honestly, I used to feel unorganized. But when I asked for help, God gave me a daily prayer rhythm that transformed my life. It can happen to you, too.
3. Throw Prayer Darts 🎯
Feel something in your gut?
See someone struggling on the street?
Pause and pray. Right then.
I call them “prayer darts”—quick, Spirit-led prayers aimed at people God highlights in real time. Don’t hesitate.
🛡️ Never Finished Challenge: How to Have a Transformed Life
✍️ Write 3 gratitude entries every morning for 7 days.
⏰ Schedule at least 10 minutes of prayer each morning.
🎯 Throw 7 prayer darts this week—real-time prayers for real people.
📓 Optional: Start a prayer journal to track what God does through your intercession.
🙌 What Does Today Say About God?
So when others trust in chariots and horses…
You raise your banner in His name.
You pray. You trust. You move.
Because the same right hand that brought David victory—
now fights for you.
What a King.
What a Friend.
What a Father.
Thank you, Jesus! 💥
