If You Feel Forgotten
Have you ever wondered if God remembers you at all? Do you feel like your prayers bounce off the ceiling? Like you’re just one of billions — too small to notice?
I have lived inside every one of those questions. Whether I was a lifeless fourteen-year-old convinced no one understood what I was going through, a career-confused man in my mid-twenties, or an overlooked thirty-five-year-old wondering if my life really mattered — I’ve been there. More than once.
And even though I’m an optimist, the reality is, because of the broken world we live in, it will happen again. But that’s not where the story ends.
The Servant’s Calling
Something was written about 2,765 years ago to a people who felt the exact same way.
About 740 years before Jesus was born, God spoke through Isaiah to a people who felt:
Forgotten. Abandoned. Small.
Isaiah 49:15:
“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!”
If you don’t have children yet, I’m sorry for this analogy — but as a dad of three little ones, this verse hits differently now. God compares His love to that of a mother nursing her baby — a bond so strong, forgetting is impossible.
And yet, His love is even greater than that.
What stands out even more is that in this moment — when God could have responded with frustration, even restarting humanity — He instead speaks with eternal commitment to His covenant. His faithfulness refuses to quit, reminding us of who He is.
Ultimately, that faithfulness led to God coming down from heaven — humbling Himself to perfectly live the life He commanded Israel to live, showing the world what covenant love truly looks like.
This is the heart of God — a heart fully revealed in Jesus. A heart that not only pursued Israel but came for you.
Jesus’ Fulfillment
The first seven verses of Isaiah 49 are prophecy fulfilled in Jesus:
Chosen before birth (Luke 1:30-33; Matthew 1:20-23)
Hidden in obscurity (Luke 2:39-52 — those quiet years in Nazareth)
Words like a sword (Revelation 1:16; John 6:63)
Light to the nations (Luke 2:29-32; Matthew 28:19-20)
Every part of this ancient prophecy unfolds in the life of Christ — all so you would know, you are not forgotten.
This fulfillment reminds me of 1 Peter 2:9-10:
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession…”
You aren’t forgotten — you are chosen.
Not accidentally stumbled upon, but hand-picked by God Himself.
Before Creation — You Were on His Mind
God wasn’t floating in dark matter twiddling His thumbs, waiting for something to happen.
Before He said, “Let there be light” (Genesis 1:3), the Light of the World (John 8:12) was already in His thoughts — the Word that would become flesh (John 1:1,14) so that you and I could live.
Before He said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water” (Genesis 1:6), He was already weaving together different gifts that would together be a body that would rely on living water (John 4:10-14).
Before He said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear” (Genesis 1:9), He had already prepared a people who would walk in steps of purpose for His glory (Ephesians 2:10).
Before He said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night...” (Genesis 1:14), He was already planning good works for you to walk in (Ephesians 2:10), marking sacred times for your life.
Before He said, “Let the water teem with living creatures…” (Genesis 1:20), He had already set the plan for sending His disciples — including you — two by two to bring hope to the world (Luke 10:1).
Before He said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds” (Genesis 1:24), He had already made a covenant promise to provide for you (Matthew 6:26-33).
And before the Trinity ever spoke creation into being, they were thinking about you.
Ephesians 1:4:
“For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight.”
The Father, Son, and Spirit — existing in perfect, eternal harmony — lacked nothing.
And yet, in that perfection, they chose to make you.
To love you.
To call you.
To send Jesus to redeem you.
This isn’t just about God having a plan for you — it’s about you being part of His eternal plan of love from the very beginning.
Never Finished Challenge — Rest in Being Remembered
If you feel forgotten, lift your eyes.
The One who made you, saved you, and called you remembers your name.
You are seen.
You are chosen.
You are deeply, eternally loved.
What Does Today Say About God?
Through my many mess-ups, I can say with confidence — I would make a terrible god.
But here’s the truth — I’m made in His image.
And today reminds me of this:
God is not afraid of my mess-ups.
He’s here to dress me up — to shape my character, to strengthen my soul, and He refuses to let me walk alone.
He’s given me the Holy Spirit to guide me, angels to protect and direct me, and daily provision for every need.
With Him, I lack nothing (Psalm 23:1).
With Him, Paul’s words shine bright in my spirit:
“If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)
Thank you, Jesus.
