Here I am. Send me.
Then I heard a voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8)
There is something profoundly transformative and supernatural about encountering God’s holiness. In Isaiah 6, we find a breathtaking example of this as the prophet Isaiah, in his vision, stands in the throne room of God. Surrounding him are these otherworldly creatures proclaiming, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of His glory” (Isaiah 6:3). Isaiah’s immediate response to this revelation of God’s holiness isn’t celebration—it’s conviction: “Woe to me! I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips” (Isaiah 6:5).
I concluded and believed that this moment wasn’t just about feeling unworthy but about transformation. God didn’t leave Isaiah in his unworthiness. Instead, He purified, commissioned, and empowered him to say “yes” to a mission Isaiah hadn’t even heard of yet. This story reminds me that encountering God’s holiness transforms us and equips us to step boldly into His purposes.
God’s Holiness: Revealed Through Worship and Discipline
Isaiah’s encounter may seem like a one-time supernatural event, but God desires to do this in all of us daily! While I haven’t seen any seraphim lately (and I’m okay with that—I’ll stick to watching The Lord of the Rings), I have experienced God’s holiness through worship and spiritual disciplines. These practices create space for God to reveal more of Himself, deepen my understanding of Him, and highlight areas of my life needing His transforming power.
For me, encountering God’s holiness happens through:
Revelation in Scripture: Scripture is the first thing I listen to and reflect on each day. I “tithe my drive” by listening to the Bible in the car, which keeps me pondering God and His Kingdom throughout the day. Recently, I’ve been in a season of listening to the book of Proverbs while I run using the Streetlights app. With my daughters, all under four, we memorize one verse a month using hand gestures and are working through the entire Bible together this year using a children’s Bible. Immersing myself in Scripture is a natural and transformative way to connect with the King of Kings—my Father, my God, my Friend, my Everything.
Prayer: Prayer aligns my heart with God’s, allowing me to hear His voice and respond to His leading.
Corporate Worship: Worshiping with others mirrors the seraphim’s unending praise and renews my awe.
Physical Exercise (Running): Running has become a form of worship for me. It’s where I connect physical discipline with spiritual transformation, allowing God’s truth to resonate in my mind and body.
In different seasons, I’ve also encountered God’s holiness through reading other books, having deep conversations with friends, exploring His creation, practicing generosity, and more.
When I align my life with God, I feel like Isaiah after witnessing God’s holiness—purified and ready to say, “Here I am. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8). In the presence of the Creator of the universe, earthly circumstances shrink. No jail cell, valley, or mountaintop can compare to who He is. Because of Him, I can boldly and courageously say, “Yes, send me.” Saying “yes” becomes less about my ability and more about trusting His power and plan.
Never Finished Challenge
God’s holiness isn’t confined to the throne room. It’s revealed in creation, Scripture, and even the rhythm of everyday life. How are you encountering God’s holiness today? What areas of your life is He calling you to surrender for transformation? Where might He be asking you to say, “Here I am. Send me”?
Say “yes” to the presence of God today, and your “yes” to His mission will follow.
Reflection: What Does Today Say About God?
God doesn’t call the equipped; He equips the called. He doesn’t hide in some unreachable place or get tired of our questions. He’s ready to reveal Himself no matter the day or circumstance. What a God we serve! What a King!
