Are you against all odds?
“At the same time too, he was hoping that money would be given him by Paul; therefore he also used to send for him quite often and converse with him. But after two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus, and wishing to do the Jews a favor, Felix left Paul imprisoned.” Acts 24:26-27 NASB1995
Because of the continued efforts of the religious sect to condemn Paul, he has an opportunity to speak to the governor of Rome. Governor Felix was in charge of order, justice and collecting tax in the region. As scripture often portrays governor Felix was corrupt and delayed justice, living with respect to the world and not God contrary to Paul who was leading with justice, living with fear and reverence to God. Despite attempts of governor Felix to receive bribes from Paul within the coming years, Paul stuck to the mission, presenting the gospel. As result, he remained in prison. Note: there would be many more corrupt Roman leaders that would lead to Romes eventual implosion showing that the gospel pierces every level in the world challenging the personal and systemic corruption.
Inspired by Paul:
Paul could have easily bribed the governor and got out. Instead, Paul witnessed to the governor standing His grown in Gods strength. The world is going to bribe you every day. Stand your ground! Your stance may effect the world, if not, always a seed or transformation for a soul. Go after the one!
Paul was not concerned with his comfort or being in prison for the rest of his life. He was concerned with the spread of the gospel - God’s calling on His life. There’s a call on your life that will push you through any season.
What comforts are you pursuing? What temptation are you entertaining?
Never Finished Challenge:
Gods got you. Stand your ground by asking God daily to be bold in your faith. Asking for comfort and peace is good, but spend more time asking for boldness. With this ask, thank God for the call on your life to love Him with all your heart, soul, and mind and make disciples.
What does this say about God?
Rome was the most powerful force in the world. Paul was unmoved and not afraid of this force because he is a citizen of heaven. God has the perfect timing and perfect ways to make Himself known. I take great comfort in a God who is sovereign.
