A Challenge to Feast on What Truly Satisfies

“Why do you spend money for that which is not bread, and your earnings for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight in abundance.”
— Isaiah 55:2 (AMP)
Yesterday, I blacked out after my usual 10-mile run. When I hit the ground, my forehead played pinball with the concrete, and I took a little accidental dirt nap for about 10 minutes.
When I came to, I was utterly confused.
Why am I lying on the pavement?
Why is there red liquid dripping onto my arm?
It took a second to process—I had blacked out. Either from dehydration, exhaustion, or something deeper.
Now, I’m sitting in Northside Hospital, awaiting discharge and confirmation that the mass they found in my brain is from an older stroke.
Yes, I’m only thirty-six, but let’s just say I’ve had my fair share of interesting medical events. Praise God—I’m okay.
And as I sat in that hospital bed, with an IV pumping hydration into my veins, I was reminded of my true thirst—Him.
Just as my body desperately needed hydration, my soul craves eternal hydration.
And there is only one source of it: a daily pursuit of Him.
A Reality Check for Israel (and for Us)
Isaiah 55 was written to Israel while they were in captivity. After years of chasing what doesn’t last, they found themselves enslaved. And here, God gives them a wake-up call:
“Why do you spend your money on what is not bread, and your wages on what does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight in abundance.”
— Isaiah 55:2 (AMP)
There’s a clear progression in this passage—a three-step process to fullness in God:
Thirst – We have to want what God offers.
Listen – Before speaking, before doing, we must hear Him.
Eat – It’s not enough to listen—we must act on what He says.
Jesus echoes this truth throughout the New Testament:
John 6:35 – “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”
Matthew 4:4 – “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”
James 1:22 – “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”
Never Finished Challenge: The Soul Fuel 55 Challenge
Since we’re in Isaiah 55, here’s the challenge:
55 days. 55 chapters. One per day.
But we’re not just reading. We’re fueling.
The Rules:
Start your reading with prayer
Ask for forgiveness and surrender your heart.
Thank God and ask for increased faith, trust, and wisdom.
Ask Him to teach you one new thing about Himself that you’ve never known before.
Ask Him to correct any lies you believe about Him or His Word.
Ask Him to help you act on what you learn today.
Read one chapter per day (non-negotiable).
Memorize one key verse per day.
Journal one takeaway per day.
How did today’s passage nourish you? How does it connect to your life?
End your day with scripture.
Just like recovery is essential after a hard workout, scripture is spiritual recovery for the mind and soul.
What Will Happen if You Do This?
If you commit to this, something will shift.
🔥 Your mind will be renewed.
🔥 Your hunger for the Word will grow.
🔥 Your prayers will change.
🔥 Your ability to hear God will sharpen.
🔥 Your faith will increase.
This isn’t just a reading plan—it’s training for endurance in the race of life.
You fuel your body for long runs; now, fuel your spirit for the long haul.
So let’s go.
Day 1 starts now.
Are you in?
What Does Today Say About God?
God is sovereign and loving. There is no inconvenient time for Him.
He doesn’t want a perfect you—He wants you.
And with you, He plans to make you perfect.
I’ve had many moments where I felt like I was inconveniencing an older father figure—but with God? I have never once walked away feeling like an inconvenience to Him.
This truth takes time to sink in, so hear me:
God is not a representation of your earthly father.
He is your perfect Father.
And you do not inconvenience Him.
He is a Perfect Father.
A Faithful Friend.
A Mighty King.
A Loving Savior.
Thank you, Jesus.
